We did it!

At 8 am yesterday morning all five of us hit the Uhuru peak, the highest point in Africa. The trip up lacked food, oxygen, heat, sleep and water but in the end we all overcame the challenges and just kept going. As they say in Swahili just go POLE POLE or SLOWLY SLOWLY! Hakuna matata! Thanks to all for the messages of suppot, it meant alot while we were up there!

Day 4

We are having breakfast at Barango camp in the beutiful Barango canyon. In the words of Matjaz it reminds us a bit of Jurassic park. Day 3 was long (9 hours) and eventful. We climbed up to the base of the glacier at Lava Tower (4800 m) and then down to camp at 3800m. Nadir had a spill on the way down and sprained his knee, I tore off a finger nail and Fabio had some altitude sickness. After a good night rest we are now ready to climb the Barango wall

Day 3

Will keep this really short as coveage is very spotty. Morning of Day 3 and we are at 3900 m. Many have felt the effects of altitude but all are ok to push on. We have along trek ahead of us today. Day 1 was very wet but yesterday was dry but very vetical. Fabio has tried for two days to do a post in Portuguese for his kids with no luck so on his behalf un grande brace a todos!

The arrival!

After nearly 48 hours of travel for some, we have all arrived in Moshi. Oddly enough none of our flight plans came off as planned. Matjaz and Valerija were rerouted via Turkey and Fabio\Nadir missed their connection and spent the day in Kenya. Tonight we coordinated our equipment for the climb tomorrow. Now for some shut eye!

T - 1 Day!

Well one of those dreams just got alot closer. The bags are packed and the team hits Tanzania tomorrow!

I see that most have voted for a successful climb, let's hope so. Challenge is that altitude sickeness can hit even the most fit. Let's hope it stays at bay.

Can't wait!
